What is Samopal?

You may be asking, what does the word "Samopal" mean?  The Czech word "Samopal" translates to "submachine gun" or more loosely, "automatic."  From the 1940s through the 1980s, both design and manufacturing referred to the submachine gun (Sa 23/25 and Sa 24/26), machine pistol (Sa vz. 61 Skorpion),  and the assault rifle (Sa vz. 58) as "Samopal."

Sa vz. 58 is short for Samopal vzor 58 which translates to Submachine Gun Model 1958.   Today, it is most often shortened to "vz. 58." 1958 is the year the model was accepted and production began in 1959.  Sa vz. 58 military rifle production lasted until 1984 with approximately 920,000 rifles produced.

About Us

Most important, what is it that you want to resolve or modify?

We are dedicated to the Sa vz. 58 and Sa vz. 61 Skorpion

  • Let's face it, vz. 58 and vz. 61 owners are a somewhat neglected group in the gun world.
  • We live in a country where name brand pistols and rifles are king and the vz. 58 and vz. 61 are more of a niche firearm.
  • Mainstream guns are the focus of gun shops and gunsmiths and this results in little support for those who own a vz. 58 or vz. 61.
  • Samopal addresses the needs and wants of people who own these historic Czech firearms.

So, if you're a vz. 58 or vz. 61 owner, you're in the right place!
